Friends Of The Paris Agreement

By JEREMY WARNE

In accordance with Article 21.1 of the Paris Agreement, the Agreement will enter into force thirty days after the date on which at least 55 parties (the name of the United Nations for signatory countries) which are estimated to be responsible for at least 55% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, have ratified it and submitted it to the United Nations. Countries can sign the agreement from 22 April 2016 to 21 April 2017 (Article 20.1). After signing, countries must formally approve the agreement at home and each lands in their own process. Some of these processes can get out of it quickly, as we will see in the United States. Others, such as the EU and its 28 Member States, will take much longer, if not years. There is no deadline for indoor admission. On the 22nd Earth Day 2016 officially became a tribute to the history books.
